Phillies vs. Marlins Betting Odds: Prediction and Pick (Sunday, July 26)
Let’s take a look at some Phillies vs. Marlins odds, picks, and predictions, but before we do, a quick setup of the series finale between the two teams.
The Philadelphia Phillies will try to vanquish the pesky Miami Marlins this afternoon at Citizens Bank Park. Following a listless loss in the opener, Phil Gosselin, who cranked two homers yesterday, resurrected a slow-starting offense to lift the Phillies to a 7-1 win. Today, Vince Velasquez will attempt to ride the momentum of an outstanding summer camp into his first start of the season. He will be opposed by Miami’s Jose Urena, who is coming off an unimpressive season in which he struggled against almost everybody, except for, you guessed it, the Phillies.

Phillies vs. Marlins Betting Preview
Now, let’s hop into everything you need to know before betting today’s Phillies vs. Marlins series finale.
It’s All About Vince
Vince Velasquez will make his 100th career start this afternoon. There’s legitimate hope entering the season that Velasquez will finally match his considerable talent with his production. After refining his changeup and adding a cutter this offseason, Velasquez shined during the Phils’ summer camp. Today, he will have to deal with a Marlins team that gave him fits a season ago.
Velasquez pitched to a 7.06 ERA in five starts that totaled just 21.2 IP. He yielded five homers and a 1.246 WHIP to a team that won just 57 games. He was also the starting pitcher during an embarrassing collapse last season in which the Phillies quickly blew a 7-0 third inning lead in an eventual 19-11 blowout loss.
However, from a historical perspective, he has pitched well in this betting role. The Phillies are 7-2 all-time when Velasquez starts as at least a -160 favorite. They are also 8-4 in his home day starts as a favorite, including 4-1 since 2018.
Urena Had Phils’ Number Last Season
Jose Urena wasn’t particularly good last season. He was only 4-10 with a 5.10 ERA in 24 games (13 starts). However, he was excellent against the Phillies in three appearances (two starts). Urena totaled a 1.80 ERA in 15 IP while allowing 0.933 WHIP. He struck 13 Phillies hitters while walking only three. As a team, the Phillies hit just .204 against Urena last with a .672 OPS.
Phillies vs. Marlins Prediction
At one point midway through yesterday’s game, the first four hitters in the Phillies’ lineup were a collective 1 for 23. Then, Bryce Harper laid a perfect bunt down the third-base line. J.T. Realmuto then followed with a mammoth blast to center.
My guess is the Phillies, despite their issues with Urena a season ago, will use that momentum going into today’s finale. In fact, I think it will be the top-half of the lineup that finally gets going and propels them to a series victory over a Marlins squad that his given them fits in recent years. That, combined with what I expect to be a stellar start from Velasquez (famous last words, I know), should push the Phillies to a series victory before they welcome the Yankees to town.
Phillies vs. Marlins Pick
I’ll take the Phillies on the moneyline this afternoon.
