Did Jimmy Butler save the Sixers’ season?
It’s way too early to tell, but so far the answer could be yes. The team isn’t how they were at the end of last season yet, but they’re starting to get there. After trailing Phoenix by as much as 15 in the opening quarter, the Sixers stormed back to defeat the Suns 119-114 in Mikal Bridges’ return to Philly. It’s their third straight win and they remain undefeated at home.
Butler finished with 16 points, three rebounds and two steals. He’s also started to develop a friendship with Allen Iverson. Ben Simmons finished with 19 points, 11 boards, and nine assists. As for the bench, Mike Muscala had 19 points and Markelle Fultz had an assist and rebound in only 7:05 of playing time.
The highlight of the night, and perhaps even the season so far, was Joel Embiid. He finished with a team-high 33 points, 17 rebounds, and three steals in the win. As for the season, he’s definitely an MVP candidate:
.@JoelEmbiid is playing at an MVP pace through quarter of season:
-has 11, 30+pt, 10+reb games. No other player in NBA has more than four.
-has 17 double-doubles to lead NBASixers 9-0 at home. 19 consecutive reg season wins at WFC.

Wednesday night will be a fun night at the Wells Fargo Center. It’ll be a battle of big men featuring Embiid and the Pelicans’ Anthony Davis.
Elsewhere, Jonah Bolden is hurt. And should Elton Brand make another trade for someone on the Wizards?
The Roundup:
After Sunday afternoon’s 48-7 depressing embarrassment to the Saints, Doug Pederson had his day-after press conference. Six guys got banged up, but it sounds like only five are actually hurt (Jason Kelce is “fine”). He was also more bothered by scoring seven points than giving up the whopping 48.
Saints head coach Sean Payton also wanted to put the game on Carson Wentz. It worked.
Is it too early to be looking at draft needs? Absolutely not.
As for the Redskins, they signed Mark Sanchez to backup Colt McCoy. Lol.
In college hoops, Temple lost to VCU 57-51 in Brooklyn. Nate Pierre-Louis scored 11 points for the Owls. They’ll take on Cal this afternoon at 5 PM on ESPNU.
Penn got crushed by Oregon State 74-58 in the Paradise Jam. They finished in fourth place.
The Phillies will host the Braves for the first Sunday Night Baseball game of the 2019 season.
Roy Halladay is also on the 2019 Baseball Hall of Fame ballot.
The Flyers are off until Wednesday when they play Buffalo. But former Flyers head coach Craig Berube was named the interim head coach of the Blues minutes after the Monday Night Football game was done. What a news dump.
In other sports news, the Rams beat the Chiefs 54-51 in the highest scoring Monday Night Football game of all-time. It was a great night, except for Vegas bookmakers.
Speaking of the Wizards, John Wall verbally assaulted head coach Scott Brooks and was reprimanded for it.
The Yankees acquired James Paxton from the Mainers.
In the news, four people were found shot and killed in a Southwest Philadelphia home.
The Jim Acosta-White House fight is over, for now.
