Your Wednesday Morning Roundup

In news that shouldn’t surprise anybody, it appears Patriots tight end Rob Gronkowski will play in the Super Bowl. He suffered a concussion in the AFC Championship game against the Jaguars a week and a half ago, and it looked like if the Super Bowl happened this past Sunday, he wouldn’t have played.
Rob Gronkowski said “hopefully by tomorrow” he’s out of concussion protocol. Will he play in #SB52? “Yes.”

He might practice with the Patriots later today. I would expect him to be 100% by game time on Sunday. Tom Brady will rely on him heavily against the Eagles’ defense.
But the Patriots did take their first “L” of Super Bowl week. Gronkowski lost to LeGarrette Blount 33-13 in Madden.

Gronk is playing video games, so he should be fine later today.
Four more days.

Our Super Bowl scouting report continues with the Patriots offense.
One reason for the team (and Howie Roseman’s) success: Going for older players instead of younger guys:
“I think that sometimes the whole is greater than the sum of its part,” philosophical Howie said. “You’re going to have a bunch of injuries over the course of the year, and obviously it’s the ‘who’ of who is going to get hurt, but to me to be in a position where one injury derails your ability to compete, we didn’t want that to happen, so we wanted to make sure we built up as much depth as possible.
“I think you’ve seen that maybe in the past, we would go for younger players. But here we brought in some veteran guys to fill those roles because we felt like we had a good football team, and we wanted to be able to have this ‘next man up’ mentality where guys can come in and play at a high level, whereas taking it on the chin wasn’t as much as we had done in the past.”
Nick Foles loves his daughter.
A possible parade date is in place. Although Mayor Kenney won’t publicly announce a possible date:
No plans right now for a parade – we don't want to jinx it! Our planning right now is focused on public safety surrounding Sunday’s game. #FlyEaglesFly #AskKenney https://t.co/oZZyeJGtTl

But the street poles won’t be greased.
Doug Pederson, who turns 50 today, will have former teammate Brett Favre speak to the team the night before the Super Bowl.
An Uber driver recorded a ton of drunk conversations with Eagle fans.
If Jerome Brown was still alive, he’d be 52 years old. He would turn 53 on February 4, Super Bowl Sunday.
Minneapolis mayor Jacob Frey took a shot (maybe a playful one) at Eagles fans in his Super Bowl welcome video:

The Foles “Skol” chant is a perfect way to cap off a great rendition of “Fly Eagles Fly.”
And John Cena, Massachusetts native, sung “Fly Eagles Fly.” Was it bad, yes, but we appreciate the effort.

In other sports news, the Redskins traded for Alex Smith. Kirk Cousins will be a free agent. Although the trade can’t be official until the new league year begins on March 14, the Redskins are giving up a third-round pick and slot cornerback Kendall Fuller to the Chiefs. The team will also sign Smith to a four-year extension that averages $23.5 million per year and with $71 million in guaranteed money.
Fuller didn’t believe he got traded.
