The Sixers continued their free agency summer with a few more moves.

First, they completed the Jimmy Butler sign-and-trade with Portland and the Clippers. Nothing coming back on the Sixers end besides Josh Richardson. They did send the rights to 2017 second round pick Mathias Lessort to the Clippers.

The “big” addition from last night was another big man, Kyle O’Quinn. The former Knicks, Magic, and Pacers power forward/center will sign a one-year veteran’s minimum deal. The team tried to bring him in last season.

O’Quinn will be a good vet, but the Sixers also signed Norvel Pelle, a younger center, to a two-way deal. He played for the Blue Coats last season.

And there was one more big man move. Sort of. The team renounced the rights to former 2017 first round pick Anzejs Pasecniks. So all of Bryan Colangelo’s picks outside of the obvious Ben Simmons selection are gone.

O’Quinn’s addition gives the Sixers at least 10 players on their roster (if you want to include Shake Milton, that’s now 11). The Sixers still need some help, especially with shooters on their bench. Should they bring back T.J. McConnell as well? This can be a really good team again, but the holes have to be filled this time.

While the regular season Sixers roster starts to take shape, Matisse Thybulle and the Summer League Sixers are getting ready for their Summer League season that begins on Friday.

The Roundup:

NHL free agency began at noon yesterday. No splashes by the Flyers, matter of fact they really made no moves for their NHL squad:

  • F Andy Andreoff
  • RW Kurtis Gabriel
  • D Nate Prosser
  • D Andy Welinski
  • D Tyler Wotherspoon
  • G Jean-Francois Berube
  • D Chris Bigras
  • F Kyle Criscuolo

Andreoff and Welinski are one-way deals, the other are two-ways meaning that they can go between the AHL and NHL without going through waivers.

I don’t know anyone on this list outside of Berube and Gabriel. There you have it.

The Phillies start a big three-game series with the Braves tonight at 7:20 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia as the team continues the second half of the season. Aaron Nola takes the mound against Dallas Keuchel.

Zach Berman is leaving the Inquirer but sounds like he’ll still cover the Eagles for someone else.

In other sports news, Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs suddenly died in a Texas hotel room at the age of 27. The team’s game against the Rangers was postponed.

Other teams made better moves than the Flyers in NHL free agency:

Nike is pulling a Betsy Ross flag shoe due to Colin Kaepernick.

Ezekiel Elliott is meeting with NFL commish Roger Goodell.

Jamaica and Panama fans fought at the Gold Cup quarterfinals at Lincoln Financial Field.

In the news, you can get a free Wawa hoagie today at the National Constitution Center.

Green Giant and Trader Joe’s veggies are being recalled due to listeria.
