It was a much-needed game for the Phillies, who were coming off getting swept by the Giants in San Francisco.

The Phils scored just one run in that entire series, but scored five in the first three innings as they beat the Cubs 6-1 at Wrigley Field.

Nick Williams got things started in the top of the second with a two-run home run, before scoring three runs in a mixture of ways in the third.

Meanwhile Zach Eflin was dealing on the mound. He went 7 2/3 innings, giving up one run on eight hits and striking out two before giving way to the bullpen. Seranthony Dominguez pitched the ninth and struck out one.

Can the offense continue? The Phils play the second game in the series tonight at 8:05 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. Aaron Nola takes the mound in that one, which makes for must-watch TV.

Elsewhere, the MLB Draft continued with the Phillies making seven picks yesterday, including Cal State Fullerton righty Colton Eastman.

The Roundup:

Now to the Eagles. Yesterday would’ve been the team’s trip to the White House, but President Trump rescinded his invitation to the team.

The story got a lot of coverage, and Fox News used pictures of players kneeling IN PRAYER in their voiceover of the cancelled White House visit. Fox News later apologized for their “mistake.”

The White House insisted that the Eagles were trying to pull off a political stunt to visit the White House while Trump was in Singapore, but the original story that less than 10 players were going to visit still seems true.

Trump and his staff responded that the Eagles “decided to abandon their fans” with the last-minute switch to not have the entire team go to the nation’s capital. Donnie didn’t seem that happy. Even some Patriots fans sided with the Eagles.

An event was still held yesterday afternoon, but it was a “Celebration of America.” From the looks of it, no real fans attended, all White House staffers with a few of them holding up Eagles stuff despite not knowing who Nick Foles was, and Trump didn’t know words to God Bless America. Truly laughable. Back home, some fans put on their own rally for the Birds at City Hall. “Trump’s a normal President. Move along, find a new slant.”

Instead of not doing anything, the Eagles had an OTA session. They’ll have sessions today and tomorrow, which will be open to the media. Expect players to comment on the White House situation.

If you hated all the news above this, there’s some really good news. Carson Wentz is apparently “WAY” ahead of schedule with his rehab and has a very realistic chance of playing Week 1 against the Falcons.

Moving on to other important things, like Bryan Colangelo. Do we have an update? Yes.

According to Adrian Wojnarowski, team ownership met last night to discuss whether the burner Twitter accounts are worthy of firing him. A decision could even be made today.

And it sounds like Colangelo won’t really be a big part in a free agent hunt:

Regardless of Colangelo’s future, the Sixers are prepared to make coach Brett Brown front and center in the July free-agent presentations, league sources said. Brown has constructed a tremendous reputation among NBA players, and he played an integral part in the 76ers’ free-agent acquisitions of JJ Redick, Marco Belinelli and Ersan Ilyasova. The hiring of Monty Williams, a former Team USA assistant, as his lead assistant coach also will be impactful in free-agent conversations. Williams has strong relationships with star players throughout the league.

The Sixers could turn to assistant general managers Marc Eversley and Ned Cohen to navigate the Sixers through the June 21 draft and July free agency. The Sixers plan to pursue free agents LeBron James and Paul George with a maximum contract slot.

So it looks like he’s gone! Right?!

JESUS F*****G CHRIST. Can we speculate maybe who’s fighting to keep him on in the ownership group?

Meanwhile, this happened outside their practice facility:
