Folks…

It’s Phillies Opening Day. Baseball is back.

The fun is already starting down in South Philly and will continue to ramp up until first pitch around 3 pm against the Braves. Andrew McCutchen, JT Realmuto, and Bryce Harper will join Rhys Hoskins and Odubel Herrera as part of the squad.

If you go down to the ballpark later today or sometime throughout the season, check out the new food options. For me, I want to check out the doughnut burger and see if it’s legit or not. Would’ve been smart if it was a Federal Donut and not just some random glazed food product.

If you’re at home and watch games this year (today’s game is on NBC 10), NBC Sports Philadelphia will have a brand new set. Now watch this and get ready for the season.

The Roundup:

The Flyers somehow aren’t eliminated yet! They edged the Maple Leafs 5-4 in a shootout last night as Carter Hart stopped 42 of 44 total shots in the game, including all five Toronto shooters in the shootout. Travis Konecny, Radko Gudas (somehow), Sean Couturier, and Ryan Hartman scored in regulation, with Coots scoring the lone goal in the shootout.

So with that, the Flyers are still eight points behind Montreal for the last wild card spot with five games to go each. Montreal has to lose in regulation for the rest of the year, while the Flyers have to win out. Tough. The team plays at Carolina Saturday afternoon. Montreal plays at Columbus tonight.

The PHWA nominated Brian Elliott as the Flyers’ representative for the Bill Masterton Trophy.

After the Phillies are done, the Sixers will host the Brooklyn Nets across the street at 7 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia. The Nets could be a potential first round matchup, which scares me.

For the second straight year, the Sixers could lose an assistant coach. This time, Billy Lange could take over as the next head coach of St. Joe’s.

Jeffrey Lurie has a correct opinion on changing overtime.

Who are the people that actually care about getting kelly green throwbacks?

Here’s Eli Manning on young Eagle fans.

“You go there, and that 9-year-old kid is giving you the double finger,” he said. “Not a thumbs-up. Not, ‘We’re No. 1.’ And he said something about my mom; I had to Google what it was. It’s just different. It’s a different culture.”

He has been at it so long, he said, that he has seen young Philadelphia fans grow up before his eyes. “Now I see him and he’s got his 9-year-old kid with him,” Manning said, smiling. “Same deal. It runs in the families down there.”

In other sports news, Devin Booker once again scored 50 points. The Suns still lost.

Jordy Nelson retired.

Bryce Harper also has the top-selling jersey in baseball.
