Your Monday Morning Roundup
Nice to see Dom Brown back in midseason form
Gooooood morning.
Baseball.
Baseball is back, and Dom Brown, typically, dropped a fly ball.
The Flyers, they won a game. And, ah, Andre Iguodala is still firing missiles at the tin in the final seconds of a close game.
Lots to get to, little time. Let’s hit it.
But first, a word from our sponsors:
– $1 hot dogs during all Flyers games. $2 PBR and $3 SoCo and Lime all day, every day. You won’t find better drink specials and a better place to watch the game while stuffing your face with insanely delicious dogs than Drinker’s Philadelphia locations.
– Danny Briere will be signing autographs at the BC Sports in the Moorestown Mall on Wednesday, March 7, from 6:30 – 8 p.m. Details and tickets here.
- We are giving away two tickets to opening day. It’s very simple to enter. Do it here.
– Help us set a world record with Guinness by pledging to drink a pint on St. Patrick’s Day.
– As we said above, baseball– back. If you’re heading to Clearwater (or if you just want everyone to think you were there), Philly Phaithful’s Clearwater Dreamin’ shirt is a must have. T-shirts and tank tops right here.
The roundup:
– Jason Babin is the latest Eagles to jam his foot in his mouth (keyboard). On Friday, he blasted fans for not “getting it” when he openly offered words of encouragement to DeSean Jackson… who had just been given a nearly $10 million deal. Babin explained that it’s not money, rather job security, that players want. Many fans shot back on Twitter, and Babin responded forcefully.
We heard from his publicist, who at first offered us an interview with Babin, then declined our CB Radio invite. Then told Drew that he didn’t get it, either. Then played the I’m closer to the NFL than you are card with one of our readers. All of this from the “Southern Hospitality” PR account, Babin’s agency. I feel the love.
– Scott Hartnell and Claude Giroux did a very good thing, appearing in a new NHL public service message against homophobia.
– In case you missed it on Friday: The Nats and Marlins have new slogans and gimmicky things for 2012.
– 97.5 The Fanatic’s Tom Byrne, who was arrested in January for assaulting a cab driver in Center City, will return to the air on Tuesday night. He spoke with Dan Gross of Philly.com and said that he has been in alcohol recovery since the incident.
- Alex Rodriguez on hitting a BOMB off Roy Halladay:
“I’m just lucky that it was the first inning and he’s not quite warmed up yet. He’s probably going to be mad next time I face him. He’s the greatest pitcher in our game, so it’s great to always have a challenge like that, even in spring training.”
- Yankees fans are wooing Cole Hamels.
– Ruben Amaro walked through the Yankees' clubhouse yesterday, presumably nude and intimidating:
– Reader Dave Wilkinson painted pictures for Mark and Gordie Howe:
- Was Peyton Manning once knocked out by the Saints’ bounty program?
