The Super Bowl has arrived, and for millions of Americans Super Bowl 54 marks the first time they can legally bet on the big game online. Here’s everything you need to know about how to bet on the Super Bowl.

We’ll cover which states offer legal online sports betting, which sportsbooks are offering the best promos, and ultimately how you should bet the Super Bowl.

States With Legal Online Super Bowl Betting

Currently, there are five states with full-scale online betting through traditional sportsbooks – where you can sign up and bet on a mobile device – and several others which offer some form of mobile betting:

Pennsylvania

PA online sports betting offer full-scale online betting through six providers.

Read our full guide on PA Super Bowl betting.

New Jersey

Similar to Pennsylvania, NJ online sports betting offers a range of betting options, with upwards of 20 sportsbooks ready to take Super Bowl action, including on ridiculous prop bets.

Read our full guide on NJ Super Bowl betting.

Indiana

Indiana online sports betting went live last year and features only a handful of betting options, but they do include DraftKings Sportsbook, FanDuel Sportsbook, and BetRivers.

West Virginia

West Virginia features only one operator: DraftKings Sportsbook. You can get up to $1,000 FREE when you sign up here.

New Hampshire

Similar to West Virginia, you’re only option in NH is DraftKings (download the app here).

Iowa

You can bet from a mobile device – we recommend PointsBet, which you can sign up for here – but you have to physically walk into a casino to verify your identity.

Nevada

You have to be in a casino while betting on your mobile phone.

Oregon

Oregon’s online betting is run through the lottery.

The American Gaming Association estimates 26 million Americans will bet on the Super Bowl, including 5 million online or on a mobile device.

For our purposes, we’ll focus on the first five states, since that is where most of the large-scale online betting will take place.

Best Super Bowl Betting Promos

With the Big Game being such a huge activation period for bettors, many online sportsbooks are rolling out promotions to entice new players to sign up and bet.

Here are the best offers for betting on the Super Bowl and how to get them.

DraftKings Sportsbook +300 Moneyline Odds or $1,000 FREE

Available in all legal sports betting states

[INSERT_ELEMENTOR id=”86260″]

DraftKings Sportsbook, our choice for best overall sportsbook, is running two unique offers: +300 moneyline odds ($20 max bet) available to new users who sign up here, or up to $1,000 FREE ($500 risk-free bet and then up to $500 deposit bonus) if you sign up here.

Ultimately, the $1,000 offers provides more value through the risk-free bet (money is refunded if you lose your first bet), but the deposit bonus is only matched up to 20% and doled out over time, so it will be difficult to earn the full amount.

The +300 moneyline offer is more tangible, and for smaller bettors that might make more sense.

DraftKings also offers a free Super Bowl Squares contest available to users in all states.

FOX Bet $100 Free

Available in: PA, NJ

[INSERT_ELEMENTOR id=”99763″]

FOX Bet is billing itself as the home for prop bets. Hard to argue with that. FOX always offers some of the most inventive prop and custom bets, and this will certainly be the case for the Super Bowl.

In additional to all of their props and bet boosts, FOX Bet is giving new users $100 in free bets (doled out as 5 smaller bets).

We like FOX Bet for its ease of use and FOX Sports tie-ins– it’s probably the most fun and approachable app for casual bettors.

New users can sign up here in Pennsylvania, or here in New Jersey.

Unibet $300 Risk-Free Bet

Available in: PA, NJ

[INSERT_ELEMENTOR id=”100770″]

Unibet is a long-time European brand that offers a straightforward betting experience. More importantly, they are offering $20 FREE with no deposit and a $300 risk-free bet on the Super Bowl if you do make a deposit.

This is our favorite kind of betting offer, because you can take the app for a spin for free, and if you like what you see, you get another bonus. In this case, the risk-free bet has to be used on the Super Bowl.

BetMGM’s 200 to 1 Odds

Available in: NJ

[INSERT_ELEMENTOR id=”100949″]

BetMGM is running an absurd 200-to-1 promo for the Super Bowl.

New users who sign up here can place a $1 bet at 200-to-1 odds on any team to score a touchdown. The odds of this happening are quite high.

There’s some fine print, and the $200 will be doled out over time. But still, this is almost as close to free money as you’ll see.

PointsBet No Juice Spreads

Available in: NJ, IA

[INSERT_ELEMENTOR id=”93132″]

PointsBet, one of the zaniest (but also most customer-friendly) sportsbooks in New Jersey and Iowa, is offering no juice (or vig) on Super Bowl spread bets between now and Saturday at 11:59 p.m.

They will also pay out the first $50 of moneyline bets early if your team scores the first touchdown of the game.

New users who sign up for PointsBet here and deposit $50 will get $150 placed in their account.

FanDuel Sportsbook Props Pick ‘Em

Available in: PA, NJ, IN

[INSERT_ELEMENTOR id=”84059″]

FanDuel Sportsbook is less promotional than some of its peers, perhaps because they’re the largest online sportsbook. But they are offering a FREE Super Bowl props pick ’em contest— it is available to players in all states.

FanDuel will serve up 15 prop bets. If you can 12 right, you’ll get $100 in site credit. Anyone who gets 15 right, will get $15,000 in site credit.

Super Bowl Betting Guide

Now that you know where and how to bet on the Super Bowl, let’s take a look at who you should bet on.

Currently, the Chiefs are 1.5-point favorites over the 49ers.

Let’s take a look at how to bet the big game.

How To Bet The Spread

Much of the focus leading up to this game has been placed on the Chiefs’ explosive playmaking ability, but the 49ers’ offense shouldn’t be overlooked. Jimmy Garappolo has had a quiet postseason, much in part to Kyle Shanahan’s ultra-conservative approach, but he continues to collect wins and has shown the ability throughout the regular season to make plays when needed. San Francisco’s balance, particularly its ability to run the football and get after the passer, gives it a terrific chance to pull the upset.

Still, I picked the Chiefs to win the Super Bowl following the wild card round, and I don’t see any reason to change that pick now. Kansas City should be able to run the football just well enough to keep San Francisco’s secondary honest. The 49ers are a terrific defensive unit, but I’m not so sure how they’re going to deal with the Chiefs’ overwhelming speed. Ultimately, I’m buying into the storyline that this year is finally Andy Reid’s year. San Francisco is legit, but I just can’t pass up a red-hot Mahomes in what essentially boils down to a pick’em. Give me the Chiefs.

Pick: Chiefs (-1.5) over 49ers

How To Bet The Total

Historically speaking, Super Bowls with high closing totals have disappointed, including New England’s 13-3 win over Los Angeles in Super Bowl 53 that never had a chance to sniff the lofty 56.5 over/under. Bettors had to wait three-plus quarters for the game’s first, last, and only touchdown.

That being said, I expect the 49ers to bring a more aggressive offensive approach into this game. I also have concerns about the ability of both defenses to keep up with the plethora of explosive skill guys in this matchup. Ultimately, recent history has shown that big upward line movement in postseason games has led to the over cashing, and it has also shown us that low-scoring Super Bowls tend to be followed by higher scoring outputs.

Pick: 49ers-Chiefs to go OVER 54.5 points

Super Bowl Prop Bets

All states that offer online sports betting allow for traditional player and team prop bets, but only New Jersey and Indiana allow for betting on the crazy props such as National Anthem length and Gatorade color.
