Rumor: Tom Brady Wanted to Join Dolphins as a Player/Owner with Sean Payton Until Brian Flores Sued the NFL
This was this crazy rumor floating around, which has been reported on by multiple outlets and sources. Tom Brady was going to retire and become a minority owner of the Dolphins, then un-retire and play QB with Sean Payton calling plays. It would have all come to fruition if Brian Flores didn’t sue the NFL the same day Brady called it quits:
Tom Brady retired from the Buccaneers with the goal of joining the Dolphins. Step one would have been Brady becoming a minority owner in Miami, possibly during Super Bowl week. https://t.co/4YeOa4QEdU

I feel like not enough people are talking about this. The GOAT becoming the first player/owner in the history of football. Announcing a week after the Super Bowl. That would’ve broken the Internet. According to Mike Florio at Pro Football Talk, here’s how it was supposed to go down:
When Tom Brady retired on February 1, his next move already was coming into focus. Per multiple sources, Brady eventually would have been introduced as a minority owner of the Dolphins. The announcement would have been made as soon as the following week, which was the week that preceded the Super Bowl.
When we reported on February 28 that the Dolphins had planned to pursue a Sean Payton/Tom Brady package deal, the Dolphins privately acknowledged that they had contacted the Saints about the possibility of hiring Payton. As to Brady, the Dolphins privately acknowledged that there had been discussions about Brady becoming a minority owner of the team.
Then came the Brian Flores lawsuit. Filed (coincidentally or not) the same day Brady retired, the litigation resulted in the plug being pulled on the Payton/Brady plan.
After Brady became a minority owner, the Dolphins would have indeed acquired the contractual rights to employ Payton from the Saints. Then, the Dolphins would have at some point gotten the rights from the Buccaneers to bring Brady to the roster.
Nuts.
This won’t help squash the rumors that Brady and Bruce Arians didn’t get along and Brady forced him out. It also makes me think Bill Belichick didn’t actually text the “wrong Brian.” This is Bill Belichick we’re talking about. He definitely sabotaged the Dolphins after he got word Tom was coming back to the AFC East. You don’t think Brian Flores and him talked about Stephen Ross bribing Flores to lose games? I do. Remember the part of the lawsuit where Flores alleged Stephen Ross wanted him to break tampering rules by recruiting a top QB? There are reports it was Brady:
Not only did Ross allegedly offer to pay Flores $100,000 per loss in 2019, but he also pressured the head coach to violate the NFL’s tampering rules just months later, according to the lawsuit.
“After the end of the 2019 season, Mr. Ross began to pressure Mr. Flores to recruit a prominent quarterback in violation of League tampering rules,” the lawsuit states. “Mr. Flores repeatedly refused to comply with these improper directives. Undeterred, in the winter of 2020, Mr. Ross invited Mr. Flores onto a yacht for lunch. Shortly after he arrived, Mr. Ross told Mr. Flores that the prominent quarterback was ‘conveniently’ arriving at the marina. Obviously, Mr. Ross had attempted to ‘set up’ a purportedly impromptu meeting between Mr. Flores and the prominent quarterback. Mr. Flores refused the meeting and left the yacht immediately.”
Circles in the NFL are tight. People talk. You don’t think a man in charge of SpyGate knows what is going on in the league at all times?
