Kyle Schwarber Clubbed Grand Slam After Telling Reporters No Phillies Change was Required
After the 5-0 loss to the Marlins on Tuesday night, Kyle Schwarber was asked if the Phillies needed to change something with the lineup or in the clubhouse:
“No. Not at all. No. No. I think the group that we have is one of the most talented groups I’ve been around and some of the best dudes I’ve been around. You go through one through nine (in the order), you go through our staff, you go through our bullpen – we’ve assembled a really good team and we’ve assembled a bunch of good dudes too. That’s why, for us, there’s frustration. You’re going to see us really come together. And we’re going to figure this thing out. I promise you we’ll be better for it at the end.”
The Phils were down 3-0 before most of us turned the game on Wednesday night.
Then this:

7th career grand slam. An oppo taco that ended up scoring the game-winning runs. The Phils added a few more for insurance and won 9-5 to snap the four-game losing skid. Their division lead remains at 6 after the Braves and Mets thumped the Giants and A’s, respectively. Four games at home now against the Washington Nationals with Zack Wheeler on the mound to start it off.
Is the Schwarber salami the catalyst for a turnaround? We shall see. And while he himself didn’t believe that change was required, Rob Thomson made a couple of moves Wednesday night, sitting Trea Turner and moving Nick Castellanos up in the order. Eight of the nine batters registered a hit and the struggling Bryston Stott and Brandon Marsh had two each. Maybe it worked, though the counterpoint is that they were playing the Marlins.
