Somebody dropped this into the Crossing Broad Slack channel, an exchange between Kevin Burkhardt and Charles Davis from Sunday’s game.

This took place in the second quarter, and I must have missed it while only half-playing attention to the putrid product on the football field:

That’s somewhat intriguing.

Here’s the exchange:

Burkhardt: We asked Doug Pederson about Wentz’s decision making, and I thought he said something that was interesting. He said, ‘we have to continue to show him on film where the ball should go.’ But shouldn’t he know that?

Davis: I would say that he should know that. I think a lot of times that he does know that…”

The clip above cuts off, so I went back to the broadcast to listen to the rest of Davis’ response:

“He has the ability (pause), part of the reason they were attracted to Carson Wentz was that he liked to throw the ball downfield. That he wanted to throw it to those guys. But you don’t have the same guys downfield here, so you better take what you can, when you can, and try to keep the football away from Russell Wilson.

Wentz didn’t seem to have any issue knowing “where the ball should go” in 2017, so the regression is really head-scratching. Not having a deep threat is a huge problem, as you well know.

Thankfully we’ve got a historic receiver class in the 2020 draft and the Birds can bring in guys who are young, fast, and can catch, instead of guys who are old, slow, and can’t catch.
