One of the things you’ve heard a lot this week is some form of “Brock Purdy has never played in an environment like the one he’ll see at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday.” Maybe that’s true, maybe not. We listed out the road and neutral site games he’s played in his career and noted that he’s been to a Big 12 Championship Game and played bowl games against Notre Dame, Clemson, and Oregon. He’s played in big college games before, but in terms of the Lincoln Financial Field, I just don’t think he’s experienced that combination of noise and rowdiness. Whether or not it affects his performance remains to be seen.

Regardless, there’s a portion of people who don’t think that Linc is very intimidating at all, which is ultimately subjective, but folks will note that it’s not Veterans Stadium, which I think we’d all agree on. The Vet was a special type of raucous, and that’s never going to be replicated in 2023, so comparing the Linc to the Vet feels like an exercise in folly.

Still, it begs the question – where does the Linc rank among PA football environments? Is it more intimidating than what you’d get in Pittsburgh and State College?

We talked about it on Crossing Broadcast:

It’s a fair question. Not trying to do a hot take or be a contrarian. There are a lot of Penn State alumni in this region and I’d be interested to see if they think the Linc is more intimidating or tougher to play in that Beaver during a night game and/or white out. And Pittsburgh has great sports fans. Don’t overlook them.
