While perusing the Washington Post for a link for the previous post (Ian Desmond, daddy), I stumbled upon this story from Nationals beat reporter Adam Kilgore, who received confirmation from Phillies Communications Czar Bonnie Clark that the team added extra security last night to protect Brycecakes: [Washington Post]

“We did take precautionary measures and added additional security in the right field area for last night’s game,” Phillies Vice President of Communications Bonnie Clark said in an e-mail. “We cannot discuss other details of the security enhancement. I am pleased to say there were no incidents during last night’s game.”

Cute. Unfortunately for Bryce, no security guard will get between him and the fastball Cole Hamels is going to put into the small of his back tomorrow. KIDDING!*

Now, while the Phillies are upping staff, maybe they can deploy a couple warm bodies to supplement the zombies running Brewerytown stands on the 300 level.

*But seriously, how awesome would it be if Cole plunked him again just for the hell of it?

  1. they did the same with Werth’s return. And i’m sure it’s not nearly the security increase as John Rocker in NYC.

Kyle, looks like your site has become irrelevant without the flyers. Flyers Rule!

  4. Just discovered this site and have a few questions:
Did you or did you not create facebook pages?
Do you still use the pages?
When did you start the site?
Why did the fightins take issue with u?
How do you pay the bills?
    Thank you

  5. yes, i did create facebook fan pages for a few athletes to start, helped me get some exposure for the blog initially. let’s face it, it takes a while to gain any traction in a crowded market, i figured it would be a good way to get my stuff in front of people. most people liked it and came back.
i still use the pages because it does help with visits, but at this point, it’s only a small percentage of them. slightly annoying? maybe- but it’s easy enough to unlike or block. i never spammed other blogs – sometimes linked in forums, never blogs.
i started the site a year ago in december, grown it to a point where i quit my job last month. the t-shirts and tickets are a big part of that, but i don’t make the t-shirts, nor do i own the tickets. i am partnered with philly phaithful and we have an agreement on sales i generated. similar deal with tickets- affiliate commission.
the fightins took issue with me when i started using the same ticket service they did, not selling phillies tickets at that point, mind you. meech pitched a fit saying i should have “asked him” to use that service (which about 10 other blogs all use now) and that was the start of the issue. they went out of business because meech is too busy to keep the site running and, im guessing, couldn’t figure out a way to make enough money from it.
last month, i wrote something criticizing one of their guys, ryan, who faked a jon heyman account on twitter then made fun of all the media folks who picked up on it. that basically sent all the fightins guys over the edge and they troll on me on twitter every chance they get. often will say i make **** up, steal stuff from the 700 level, generally call me out on everything i do.
nothing to defend, that’s the deal with the site and the fightins. i work my ass off with the site and turned it into a full-time gig and opened a bunch of doors for myself in the process. got a lot of help along the way from 97.5, 610, nbc, fox etc who have all mentioned us.
i try to keep the ticket and t-shirt posts to a minimum, but most people find the ticket service useful and buy the t-shirts, and it helps pay the bills, so i try to limit it as best i can.

  6. Seriously your new auto response is the most annoying thing I have ever read

Considering that there have been stabbings in the stadium, beatings in the parking lot, and fans going on the road in order to kick opposing fan’s heads in, maybe the Dodgers should consider investing in some extra security?
    Just a thought.

  12. Meech loves trolling Kyle because his blog made it

  13. Thomas E Merschen May 23, 2012 at 9:16 am

If fans threw batteries at Harper, Ed Murphy, the safety czar, would be at city hall the next day. I would be surprised if the phillies hired extra security just based on Ed murphy’s recommendation.

  14. Thomas E Merschen May 23, 2012 at 9:18 am

    I meant that I wouldn’t be surprised.
And I low the auto response. I wish I knew how to set that up.

  15. Edward Murphy May 23, 2012 at 10:08 am

    Mr. Merschen,

The Philadelphia Phillies official position is to not comment on matters of security.  What I can tell you, is that I have had the privilege of having countless meetings with the organization on matters of safety.  Their priority first and foremost is the safety of their players, staff and fan base.  They are strongly committed to doing everything in their power to provide a fun, safe, family atmosphere for all to enjoy.  Which is the exact opposite policy of the Flyers, who are only concerned with the almighty dollar.  They could care less who is harmed and how badly.  I apologize for not being on here as often lately as I have been extremely busy fighting the fight on the forefront, instead of the back end. I have been in and out of meetings, which are starting to gain some traction.  I will make a more conscious effort to provide a voice for the fan base that is outraged at this ongoing epidemic.

    Keep fighting the good fight!

  16. ^^^^ You were great in Trading Places

  17. Soon they will not have to worry. No one will be sitting in right field.

  19. Paul Holmgren May 23, 2012 at 11:46 am

Kyle, how much money do you make a year?

  20. You are aware that the Nats have taken 13 out of the past 15 games from the Phils? Philadelphia blows.

  21. As a Nats fan, I for one think Hamels hitting Harper again would be awesome. We will take Harper on the base paths any chance we can get, so please!! Hit Harper again tonight.

  23. It’s awesome while you re-try foods you have never enjoyed, only to understand that you happen to be now some sort of fan! Broadening a person’s tastes is nearly always a great thing:) The Fort is well fortified and seems to have damn powerful glass. We must carry on and use bigger rocks along with increase each of our velocity! Raise the actual standards to get licensing, increase the actual pain pertaining to transgressions as well as tell a freakin’ reality… Or die. Get a little bit better everyday. This happens to me! and i really like it as often: D
    wow
Have a person ever experimented with this with some legal size paper? The a higher level difficulty is so high which it hurts my personal brain. *cue emotional image involving my unshowered, hungry, sleepless girl, mid-way from the third book from the Twilight saga.. * It isn’t really as awesome as you may think. I literally was required to pry the actual books out of her kung-fu hold and push her ahead to bed. *shudder* Attending neighborhood theatre auditions. Yes, the works and musicals are usually great, but this auditions will be FABULOUS. Watching your own mailman look into Hamlet or your dental office belt out a indicate tune will give new depth for a world. Really, finding away about an indivdual’s hidden plus points or passions is quite awesome.
