What a day for the Sixers. And they played a game as well.

First, the game.

They beat the Miami Heat 124-114 thanks to Joel Embiid and JJ Redick. Embiid put up 35 points and 18 rebounds while Redick recorded 25 points in what could be his permanent return to the starting lineup. The team next plays Wednesday night in Orlando against the Magic.

But the biggest takeaway from the game was Markelle Fultz. For all the wrong reasons:

He said the ball slipped out of his hands (we’ll see about that), but he also reportedly split with Drew Hanlen. The Fultz project had some progress this offseason, but it appears it might all crumble down. Could this be a reason why he’s struggled? –

Maybe their newest acquisition could help him get a new shot. Jimmy Butler (and Justin Patton) were officially traded to Philly yesterday. Elton Brand greeted him in Minneapolis and they both arrived in Philly yesterday afternoon.

The Sixers day was mainly good. The past two days for the Eagles weren’t. After losing to the Cowboys at home, the Birds also lost Ronald Darby for the season with a torn ACL.

Chelsea Handler was at the Eagles game on Sunday. She wasn’t there to watch the game, but she might have been race baiting fans.

Eagle legend Brian Dawkins, also known as “Weapon X”, paid tribute to Stan Lee, who passed away yesterday.

The Flyers look to continue their hot streak as they host the Florida Panthers tonight at 7 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia.

With the team hot, so is Claude Giroux. He was named the league’s Third Star of the Week after posting eight points in three games last week.

James van Riemsdyk continues to move closer toward a return to the lineup from a lower-body injury sustained in the second game of the regular season. On Monday, he was on the ice throughout practice as an extra forward. He is now participating in contact drills as well.

van RIEMSDYK: “I think I’ve been doing that,” he said when asked if he has been cleared for contact. “In the drills, whether it’s been some competitive situations and that sort of stuff, so that’s been good and I’ve been feeling good. It’s matter of getting your timing and awareness back for some of that stuff too.”

Some sad news regarding Gabe Kapler: His Malibu house burned down due to the wildfires in California.

In college hoops, St. Joe’s improved to 2-0 with a 78-63 win over Monmouth. Charlie Brown scored 21 points, with 19 of them coming in the second half, and Lamarr Kimble put up 19 points. They’ll head to the Myrtle Beach Invitational to take on Wake Forest Thursday morning.

Tonight, Penn hosts Lafayette and Temple hosts Georgia.

In other sports news, the Giants escaped San Francisco with a win on Monday Night Football.
