Not the best of nights for the Phillies. Even Jimmy Rollins, who made his broadcast debut, cussed in the bottom of the 7th.

To start, their series-opening game against the Mets was delayed an hour and 40 minutes due to rain. But, the Phillies never got started (outside of a Rhys Hoskins solo home run) in the 5-1 loss to the Mets. Jake Arrieta gave up four runs on seven hits in six innings despite striking out seven. On the other end, Steven Matz gave up one run on three hits in six innings with six strikeouts.

But the big storyline from the game was the ejection of Bryce Harper. Harper wasn’t happy with umpire Mark Carlson’s questionable strike zone during his at-bat as well as during Cesar Hernandez’s. But Arrieta made things more interested postgame when he criticized Harper and said the team needs him to stay in the game. And he’s kinda right, especially now with the Phillies going 8-10 after starting the season 4-0. The Phillies need something to jolt them, but maybe Harper’s ejection wasn’t it.

The series resumes tonight at 7:10 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia+. Zach Eflin faces Zack Wheeler.

Game 5 between the Sixers and the Nets is tonight at 8 PM on NBC Sports Philadelphia and TNT. It could end the series, and Joel Embiid thinks so (while holding Shake Shack).

Meanwhile on the Nets end, Jared Dudley continued to elaborate on his “average” Ben Simmons comments. Simmons, on the other end, is in a fun commercial with his dog Bane. Simmons wins again.

Also for the Nets, co-owner Joe Tsai was fined $35,000 for comments “detrimental to the NBA.” This comes after GM Sean Marks was suspended for tonight’s game.

Outside of the series, the Phoenix Suns fired coach Igor Kokoskov and are eyeing Sixers assistant Monty Williams.
